It was May 2008. By my calculations it was my second proper gig ever, a little while after Maximo Park in Portsmouth (Great Gigs #1). It was also one of the first times ever I’d been to the hipster mecca that is Camden Town.

As with my first gig ever we arrived unnecessarily early, got right to the front and waited there for hours for fear of losing our spot. At about 6’2” I just about pissed off every other person in the crowd by standing centre front right at the barrier..

But that didn’t matter at all to me as the energy of the performance completely blew me away. The Sunderland-heralding indie-pop quartet ripped straight into fan favourite Decent Days and Nights as the lights (and the entire crowd) went absolutely berserk (by indie kid standards anyway..).

The tempo didn’t let up as they stormed through break-neck-speed hits in quick succession, blasting out then-newbie Broke Up the Time followed by first album highlight Meantime.

This show will stick with me forever as it was my first experience of that perfect combination of pure riff-lead raucous in a low ceilinged dimly lit venue with an energetic singalong crowd :D
